Oreo-making robot churns out cookies based on Twitter trends

Food and technology come together in perfect harmony via this ingenious robotic device that makes customised Oreo cookies based on Twitter trends.

The machine - which lets you Eat The Tweet (#EatTheTweet) - was unveiled by the folks at Oreo and Maya Design, a Pittsburgh-based consultancy business, at the SXSW tech conference this week.

In what is surely one of the most surreal (and brilliant) inventions to grace the world of technology, the "Trending Vending" robot allows people to choose a trending topic on Twitter via a touchscreen. The hashtag in question is then made into a cream-filled Oreo cookie based on that topic.

The entire process happens in under five minutes and whoever has ordered the Twitter-inspired cookie can watch as the robot uses different flavoured pumps to churn out the most topical biscuit known to man.

There are 12 choices of crème flavours and colours that people can select from, in a technology that uses a combination of 3D printing and robotic manufacturing.

The device is just one in a string of evermore clever and unusual marketing ploys that are used to showcase the cutting edge in new ideas and technologies at the landmark Texas exhibit.
