So which dining spot was crowned the very best?

Restaurant Story in London was named the best restaurant out of thousands, for offering “an extraordinary dining experience: Not knowing what to expect of a tasting menu that included items such as ash and coal.”

The eatery located off Tower Bridge on Tooley Street serves a six course menu for £65, an eight course menu for £85 and a three course set lunch menu for £35.

While the restaurant's interior doesn't look much different from many eateries in London - with wooden furnishings, an exposed brick wall and leather seats - chef Tom Sellers has been praised for serving ambitious British cooking that tells an 'edible story' through presentation, flavour and scent.

It has been wowing diners and critics alike and earned its first Michelin stars withing five months of opening in April 2013.
