The world's most calorific cheesecake comes with potato chips, pretzels and hot fudge

Now don't get us wrong, we're all for a gratuitous cheesecake dessert - but even we might draw the line at this artery-clotting bad boy.

Comprising a "huge mountain" of cheesecake topped with potato chips, pretzels and hot fudge, this aptly-named Cheesecake Challenge pudding is not for the fainthearted.

But before your stomach muscles wail in protest, it's worth noting you'd have to trek all the way over to Las Vegas to try it.

The monster of a dessert is exclusively available at Guy Fieri’s Vegas Kitchen & Bar, which brought its particular brand of gooey carb overload to the residents of Sin City back in April.

Though this casual dining spot has been open for three months, its eye-watering sweet option only captured the attention of the wider world this week after Nevada-based journalist Herbie Pallotta of KNPR News rose to the challenge and tried it out.

"It is half a cheesecake studded with pretzels and potato chips, then zigzagged with a drizzle of hot fudge," Herbie wrote, in a particularly eloquent account of his dessert.

"But the telling, crucial detail is how the half-cheesecake is presented. Instead of sitting flat - commonsense, quotidian, even jejune - the cheesecake is set on its edge like a wheel, so it presents itself as a sort of runaway half of a dirty and broken Thundarr the Barbarian moon that's been ripped out of orbit by cosmic forces beyond our reckoning.

"And, by now calorie-drunk, swooning with surfeit, I imagined [chef and owner] Guy Fieri straddling that ragged crescent cake-moon like a motorcycle, riding into a cold and inscrutable universe, crying for an answer, a connection, somebody, anybody, with his painted flames and chocolate-sauced potato chips, his pepperoni armor and outsized burgers: Is anybody out there? I've got cheesecaaaaake!"

Well, quite. We're not sure we'd have quite the nerve - or sheer digestive gut power - to guzzle down such a behemoth, but those who aren't quite sold on the cheesecake challenge, chef Guy has helpfully provided a few other options.

There's the mint chocolate chip ice-cream pie with oreo cookie crust and hot fudge. Oh and the S'Mores Monte Cristo with brioche, graham cracker butter, marshmallow and chocolate and chocolate and raspberry dipping sauces.
