Our Show Us Your Lunch competition has just launched (see details below), and to give you a bit of a spur and some recipe inspiration, we thought we’d start by showing you our lunch.
From a health-conscious, falafel-stuffed pitta bread to a carb-loading lunch of left-over chicken noodle stir-fry, and the first try of a new Indian ‘naanwich’– here’s what the Stylist.co.uk team have been eating so far this week…
ABOVE: Stylist.co.uk Online Editorial Assistant, Lauren Smith: "I am eating leftover teriyaki and ginger chicken stir fry, served as a cold noodle salad with some spinach and cucumber in a light soy dressing. It looks like a huge mound of food, because it is - I am at the joyous carb-loading stage of my marathon training, so every meal now comes accompanied by a huge side of starch. It's ace. But I am probably going to need a nap in about ten minutes..."
ABOVE: Stylist.co.uk Editor, Anna Fielding: "Today’s lunch is left-overs from a boyfriend-made Indian street food bonanza last night. The aloo chat is from my masterchef other half and the samosa is from Ambala on Brick Lane, London who make excellent samosas and also potato bondas (a key part of last night’s vada pav sandwiches.) Also: some more tomatoes. I bought a lot of tomatoes at the weekend."
ABOVE: Stylist.co.uk Online Writer, Anna Brech: "I opted for pitta bread with falafel, humous and red and green peppers for lunch today. It's an unusually healthy choice for me - I normally go for something a bit more stodgy and substantial like pasta pesto. But I have been bingeing on leftover Easter chocolates lately and feel the need for nutritious, wholesome food. I'll probably be craving a sugar-heavy afternoon snack later on but this will do nicely for now!"
ABOVE: Stylist.co.uk Freelance Contributor, Sharon Forrester: "This left-over lunch is homemade green lentil, mushroom and spinach curry with pearl barley and beetroot. While it doesn't look amazingly appetitising, it's really tasty, healthy and - most importantly - filling too. I hate feeling hungry again just a couple of hours after having eaten lunch!"
ABOVE: Stylist.co.uk Editor, Anna Fielding: "Yesterday I brought my lunch in – this is rye bread and some fancy, sharp cheddar from L’Epicerie 56 on Chatsworth Road, London (very near my house), plus some tomatoes. The mustard, on the bread, is a jar of Colemans I keep at work. I love mustard. The cool tiffin-style lunchbox behind was sent over by Suda, a Thai-style café."
ABOVE: Stylist.co.uk Freelance Contributor, Sharon Forrester: "If I don't bring in left-overs for lunch, I usually go to The People's Supermarket on Lamb's Conduit Street to get my midday meal as I love their fresh, healthy dishes cooked on the premises. However, today, I did neither of those things! Today's lunch is a delicious mozarella, avocado and tomato sandwich on an olive bap - followed by a Portuguese custard tart for afters with a cup of tea - from the nearby Conduit Coffee Shop."
