Will you dine at London’s new ‘naked’ restaurant?


London has seen its fair share of niche eateries of late - the cheese toastie cafe, the cereal cafe, the new all-avocado restaurant. But there’s a new pop-up coming to town set to trump the lot in shock factor; the naked restaurant.

Called The Bunyadi, the ethos of the venue is simple - no impurities allowed. Keeping everything natural, the restaurant plans to use no artificial flavourings, no chemicals, no electricity, and if you’d like to really commit to the idea, no clothes while you dine either.

It really is a naked restaurant in every sense.

Of course you don’t have to be naked to eat at The Bunyadi.

If getting down to your birthday suit for dinner sounds a bit too much, you can still enjoy the experience while sitting in the ‘clothed’ section, across the way from those getting ‘pure’.

The brainchild of Lollipop, which also created ABQ, the Breaking Bad themed cocktail bar which opened as a pop-up in London last summer, The Bunyadi hopes to transport diners to a time where ‘everything was fresh, free and unadulterated from the trappings of modern life’.

Meals will be cooked on a wood-flame grill and served on handmade clay crockery, the cutlery will be edible, and diners will sit beneath a ‘canopy of candle lights, creatively partitioned with bamboo and wicker’.

Furniture will also all be wood-hewn, though for the sake of those going bare, smoothly sanded we hope.

“We believe people should get the chance to enjoy and experience a night out without any impurities: no chemicals, no artificial colours, no electricity, no gas, no phone and even no clothes if they wish to. The idea is to experience true liberation,” says Seb Lyall, the founder of Lollipop.

“We have worked very hard to design a space where everything patrons interact with is bare and naked. The use of natural bamboo partitions and candlelight has enabled to us to make the restaurant discreet, whilst adhering to the ethos behind it. No doubt, this has been the most challenging project for us yet, which makes us very excited about it”

The restaurant is set to open in a central London location this June, with both a vegan non-vegan menu on offer. You’ll need to be quick a nab a table however, as there’s already a waiting list of over 8,000 curious customers.

Open for three months, the restaurant will issue tickets on a first come, first served basis, and is planning to accommodate up to 42 diners at a time.
