Would you dine with your cat? Nestlé offers private catering service for you and your feline

Most animal owners will admit to occasionally feeding their pets scraps under the table or letting them climb into bed with them for a cuddle.

But one thing that is almost never shared between animals and humans is a romantic meal for two — until now.

As part of its promotional campaign for Mon Petit cat food, Nestlé Japan is offering a catering service complete with a private chef who will turn up at your door and whip up a four-course meal for you…and your cat.

Now, let’s get the obvious questions out of the way first — no, the chefs don't make the same food for the humans and pets and eating out of a cat bowl on the floor isn't compulsory (unless, of course, you’re into that).

So, what exactly is on offer?

Dinner for two?

Dinner for two?

For the appetizer, the chef will serve up a pouch of prepared Mon Petit maguro (tuna) and bonito fish for the furry companions and a similar fish dish garnished with vegetables for the human.

Next up is soup — a packet of Mon Petit with maguro, crab and sardines served artistically on a plate for the cat and a delicious bowl of crab, scallops and sardines for the owner.

With conversation in full swing (“So Fluffy, how many mice did you catch today?”), guests can prepare to feast on the main course — a delicious pouch of roast chicken with vegetable sauce for the feline friend and a human-version of the dish for the owner.

To finish, it’s a cocktail glass filled with Mon Petit seafood for the cat and a blancmange with berries and cream for the human.

The catering service costs a whopping 22,222 yen (£130) and is only available for a month (in December) for cat lovers living in Tokyo, Japan.

While we’re not quite sure whether the idea is bonkers or brilliant, it would seem that ‘cat dining’ is reflective of a bigger international trend.

There are an estimated 150 cat cafes around the world now with Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium in London having taken 7,000 bookings in the first 24 hours of opening in 2014.
