Starbucks launches an evening menu, featuring wine, beer and hot food

First McDonald's introduced their 'hipster' menu in Australia and now coffee chain Starbucks have announced they will be launching an evening offering including wine and beer alongside their usual coffees.

The new menu, Starbucks Evenings, has already started at the Stansted Airport branch, and will be rolling out to shops across the UK soon afterwards.

As well as alcoholic alternatives to their coffees, the evening menu will also include hot food and bar snack style bites, available from 4pm each day.

Cheese platters, truffle macaroni and cheese, and artichoke and goats cheese flatbreads will all feature on the menu.

Channeling a more European style of coffee-shop, which stay open late and have more choice for their customers rather than having to pick between a cafe and a bar to visit, Starbucks will also be offering a full meal menu, as opposed to their current sandwich and snack selection.

The menus will include sophisticated bar-style snack platters such as olives, and cheese boards, as well as hot desserts, although the daily menu, and crucially, the coffee will still be available into the night.

The evening menus are already in existence in America, where Starbucks dominates the coffee shop market, and have been a great success. Most branches of the stores which run the evenings programme stay open until 10pm or 12am.

Wine and beer, and the evening meals will not be available for takeaway, so commuters won't be walking around with wine and beer in takeaway cups, and Starbucks have no plans to offer spirits as part of the menu.

Ian Cranna, Vice President of marketing for Starbucks Europe said: "Our Evenings stores will offer something new and unique for customers – a fantastic premium food range, carefully selected wines and beers, as well as bespoke store designs, giving our customers more reasons to visit later in the day."

So next time you're looking for somewhere to meet a friend, a coffee shop might be the next best option.
