Stylist’s Fair Game stars make up part of Team GB’s first-ever female football squad

Yesterday Team GB coach Hope Powell named her full squad for London 2012 – six of whom appeared in Stylist’s special Fair Game issue.

Cover stars Rachel Yankey, Claire Rafferty, Jill Scott, Stephanie Houghton, Ellen White and goalkeeper Rachel Brown will be representing Great Britain on the global stage for the very first time since women’s football first appeared at the Atlanta Games in 1996.

Powell, who managed her 150th match as England national coach against Slovenia last Thursday, said: "Narrowing my squad down to 18 was very, very tough because of the calibre of player we’ve got coming through now. This is a great chance for these players to be involved in something huge and it gives us a great platform to further raise the profile of the women’s game.”

Team GB will kick off their campaign when they face New Zealand at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on July 25 - two days before the opening ceremony.
