You might have missed this feminist detail in Taylor Swift’s new music video

We don’t think there’s been so much hype and excitement surrounding an impending album release since Beyoncé dropped Lemonade back in 2016.

Since Taylor Swift released her new single, Look What You Made Me Do, from her comeback album Reputation a mere few days ago, social media has been busy dissecting every inch of the lyrics – and now the video, which Swift premiered at the VMAs on Sunday night.

From perching on a gold throne surrounded by snakes, to referencing former flame Tom Hiddleston’s declaration of love for her in the form of an ‘I Heart TS’ T-shirt, the singer hasn’t held back with her smart comebacks.

But did you notice the single $1 dollar bill lying alongside Taylor in her bathtub full of diamond-encrusted jewellery?

Blink and you might just have missed it, but it’s a clever nod to her very recent countersuit against DJ David Mueller, in which she won her allegation that he groped her back in 2013.

Speaking in a statement following the ruling, which awarded her a symbolic $1 in damages, Swift said she hoped her experience would empower others in similar situations.

After thanking her legal team “for fighting for me and anyone who feels silenced by a sexual assault”, she said: “I acknowledge the privilege that I benefit from in life, in society and in my ability to shoulder the enormous cost of defending myself in a trial like this.

“My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard. Therefore, I will be making donations in the near future to multiple organisations that help sexual assault victims defend themselves.”

Taking to Twitter, Swift’s fans were quick to point out the deliberate reference.

Top marks, Taylor.
