All of the adverts at this London tube station have been replaced with pictures of cats

Turns out there are a lot of people who live in London who love cats and hate adverts in equal measure. Because a far-fetched campaign to cover all of the advertising space at an Underground station with pictures of moggies has raised enough funds to become a reality.

Back in April, The Citizens Advertising Takeover Service (yes, you've got it: CATS, for short) started crowdfunding on Kickstarter and has now successfully reached its target, raising over £23,000 for a feline tube station takeover. The group chose Clapham Common for the project, with all posters, banners and barrier covers at the station now covered with photos of felines.

The 68 snaps are of strays from rescue charities Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and Cats Protection and will adorn the station for two whole weeks.

The company asked for donations to make their dream a reality, heralding the campaign as a fight against consumerism.

"This isn’t a clever marketing stunt for a pet food brand, or a guerrilla campaign for a new TV series. The people behind it are volunteers who raised the money on Kickstarter. We want to inspire people to think differently about the world and realise they have the power to change it," the organisation explains.

It was the first project by a creative collective named Glimpse, who are now taking suggestions for a follow-up. Naturally, dog lovers are hot on the heels of cat fans, with pooches winning in the suggestion poll for the next project.
