If you devoured Gillian Flynn's best-selling novel Gone Girl with the same reckless abandon you usually reserve for eating a Mars bar ice cream, then you'll be extremely excited to know that the trailer for the film adaptation is finally here.

The hugely successful book follows the new marriage of a young couple, Nick and Amy Dunne. After Nick loses his job as a journalist, the couple decide to move back to Nick's hometown despite Amy's reservations about leaving her beloved New York home.

When Amy suddenly goes missing on the couple's fifth wedding anniversary, Nick finds himself the main suspect.

Each chapter tells the developing story from Amy or Nick's point of view and what follows is a tale of many twists, where no narrator can be trusted.

The movie adaptation stars Ben Affleck as husband Nick and Rosamund Pike as Amy. How I Met Your Mother star, Neil Patrick Harris is set to play Amy's former boyfriend Desi and Emily Ratajkowski (the model from the Blurred Lines video) is Andie Hardy.

Directing the film is David Fincher, whose most recent work includes directing and producing the brilliant House of Cards. He was also behind Fight Club, Se7en, and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, so we're betting that this is going to be pretty special.

Gone Girl will be released October 3
