The Notebook is being turned into a TV series

It's hard to deny the popularity of The Notebook, both the 2004 film starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, and the 1996 book that spawned it.

Now the many fans of Noah and Allie's romance will no doubt be excited to hear that a TV series is in the pipeline, following the couple “at the outset of their blossoming relationship as they built their lives and their future together against the backdrop of the racial politics, economic inequities and social mores of the late 1940s in North Carolina.”

It will cover the interval period between the years covered in the film, which reveals their rocky road to true love through the reminiscing of the pair as an elderly couple in a nursing home. The show is in development at The CW, the channel recently reported to have taken on a gritty Little Women reboot.

“I don’t believe we’re going to see the older couple - what they become,” The CW president Mark Pedowitz told reporters at the Television Critics Association’s press tour. “But things change [in development]. I’m thrilled [author] Nick Sparks wanted to do it at The CW.”

Sparks is set to be co-executive producer of the series, though there is not yet any detail on casting or dates. Without Gosling and McAdams, would you watch?
