From Up On Poppy Hill trailer

From Up On Poppy Hill.jpg

If you haven't heard about film From Up On Poppy Hill, here's why you should be getting excited about it: it's been created by the same people who brought you Oscar-winning animation Spirited Away.

Whereas Spirited Away was a modern fairytale, From Up On Poppy Hill tells the story of a new generation Japan.

Set in Yokohama in the year 1963, it starts as the country begins to pick itself up from the devastation of the Second World War.

And, as you'd expect from Studio Ghibli, the animation is superb, including a beautiful depiction of Yokohama harbor and the surrounding hillsides. The accompanying music is taken from the period in which it's set, creating a soundtrack that perfectly captures the era.

From Up On Poppy Hill is released in UK cinemas on August 2nd
