Tim Burton set to direct remake of Disney's Dumbo

Disney's 1941 classic Dumbo is set to be remade by the one and only Tim Burton.

The director is expected to use a mix of computer generated effects and live actors to bring the animated elephant story to life.

Walt Disney Pictures’ president of production, Sean Bailey, spoke of the details of the new Dumbo to The Wall Street Journal, saying "it's a big world" hinting that the story of a circus elephant with large ears who learns to fly will be broader in the new film.

The Hollywood Reporter writes there will be "a unique family story that parallels Dumbo's journey".

It's one of a number of new films based on Disney animated classics, including Cinderella starring Cate Blanchette and Lily James (out this month), The Jungle Book and a Beauty and the Beast expected in 2017 with Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in the title roles.

Tim Burton

Burton, who currently is working on Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children with Eva Green and Samuel L Jackson, is known for his dark and whimsical on-screen style seen in hits such as Edward Scissorhands (1990), Corpse Bride (2005) and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007).

While Dumbo is still in development and doesn't have a release date, we can't wait to see what the film magician does with this live-action remake.
