Valentine's on the cheap

Valentine's Day is traditionally a time where you lavish your other half with expensive gifts and flamboyant gestures of love...

But in these tough times of budget cuts and crippling debt, some are looking for a more economic way of symbolising their affection.

Luckily, help is at hand in the unlikely form of supermarket chain Asda, which has just launched a Valentine's Day card - for the bargain price of seven pence.

The thrifty token of love comes complete with Asda's "Smart Price" logo on the front cover and inside it quips, "My love for you is priceless!"

Cheap it may be, but the cards have already taken the internet by storm, especially on money-saving sites such as hotukdeals.com.

Users there greeted the card with elation - though most were agreed that it would not go down well with whoever was on the receiving end of it.

"Looking to break up with your partner but not sure how? Give them a 7p card from Asda!" one person wrote, as another commented, "Thanks for making me laugh so much. Think it should come with a warning on the packet - GUARANTEED TO GET YOU A QUICKIE DIVORCE."

What do you think? Would a card like this amuse or enrage you? Are traditional gestures such as flowers or jewellery (second picture) the safe bet? Let us know your thoughts on Twitter
