An extended trailer for Cloud Atlas has just been released, offering tempting insight into one of this autumn's most anticipated fantasy blockbusters.

The lavish adaptation of David Mitchell's beloved novel comes with an all-star cast headed up by Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Susan Sarandon and Hugh Grant.

It's being touted as a cinematic masterpiece and the elaborate trailer certainly suggests that no effort has been spared in a series of sweeping, other-worldly scenes dreamt up by directing trio Lana and Andy Wachowski (who found fame with The Matrix) and German film-maker Tom Tykwer.

But will the epic tale of mystery, romance, love and death spanning more than three centuries live up to the hype? Decide for yourself by watching the trailer, below and let us know your thoughts on Twitter or in the comments section.

Cloud Atlas is released in the UK in October.
