A video of a woman giving birth in a water pool has gone viral after viewers were left shocked by how quickly the process took place.

New mum Audra Lynn, from California, was filmed giving birth to her son, with the delivery taking less than a minute.

Captured by midwife Lisa Marie Sanchez Oxenham, the clip shows Audra having a couple of contractions in the water pool, before her son seemingly pops out.

Prompting amazed reactions from viewers, the clip has so far been viewed more than 17 million times, with 58,000 likes and 115,500 shares at the time of writing.

Speaking to the BBC, Lisa Marie described the "uneventful" delivery as "amazing".

"What you cannot quite see in the video is that the head is already out. So I tell Audra to wait for the next contraction, and that's when the baby flies out," she said.

"The mother's joy is so moving. When she says 'my baby son', it makes many people cry. It is such an incredible moment."

The average labour and birth time for mothers who have already had children, as Audra Lynn had, is around eight hours, making the speedy delivery even more astounding.

"I believe the video has gone viral because it's such a beautiful moment, in an intimate, private and relaxed atmosphere," Lisa Marie added.

You can watch the whole delivery below.
