Will & Grace is back with a glorious five-minute trailer (and, yes, it includes a musical number)

Will & Grace is, as fans will be all too aware, is heading back to our screens later this year. And now we’ve finally been given a taste of all the fast-talking fun that’s to come, thanks to an epic five-minute trailer.

It all kicks off in the most meta of manners, as stars Eric McCormack and Debra Messing step out of the NBC offices after agreeing to reprise their roles as the show’s titular characters. McCormack is excited – he’s on cloud nine, in fact. But Messing seems… well, she seems peeved (and intent on stealing all the free food she can muster).

“I’m busy,” she tells her co-star. “I just don’t know if I have the time [to do a reunion series].”

“Busy?” quizzes McCormack. “All you do is Instagram!”

In a bid to help Messing feel good about her decision, McCormack takes her downstairs and reintroduces Debra to the iconic Will & Grace set – but she admits she’s still afraid of what’s to come.

“There’s nothing scary in here,” he reassures her, before lifting back a stack of blankets and exposing Megan Mullally (obviously in character as Karen) asleep on the sofa. And, yeah, she’s apparently been disco-napping on the set for the past… ooh, decade?

“I must have needed that sleep,” she mutters.

As McCormack does his best to get Mullally up, moving, and coherent (she seems blissfully unaware that Will & Grace is a scripted show), Messing stares out across the set with a worried expression on her face.

“What if something fundamental has changed?”

Yup, nothing has changed.

NBC has ordered 10 episodes of a Will & Grace revival, reuniting Emmy winners Messing (Grace), McCormack (Will), Hayes (Jack) and Mullally (Karen).

“We’re thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest and most defining comedies in NBC history is coming back,” said NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt.

“This ground-breaking series for everything from gay rights to social and political commentary – all disguised as a high-speed train of witty pop culture – is coming back where it belongs.”

Jennifer Salke, the president of NBC Entertainment, added that they were inspired to bring the gang back together after the success of their one-off episode in 2016, which saw them encourage fans to vote in the presidential election.

“The fact that all four of the original stars were excited about getting back into production is a testament to the joyful experience they had doing nearly 200 episodes for eight seasons,” she said.
