America invents Bacon Milkshake

First Cadbury's Cream Cheese, and now this?

Ever since Nigella introduced us to Bacon Brownies and the joys of Salted Caramel, we've learnt to love sweet/salty flavour combinations - and it looks like this is one food trend that refuses to die.

American Fast-Food Chain Jack in the Box have caused a part-disgusted, part intrigued stir amongst the food-blogging community for their limited edition Bacon Milkshake.

Part of their 'Marry Bacon' campaign, which also encourages lovers of the pork-related product to 'Make a Bacon Baby' and contribute to a Bacon-themed tumblr, Jack in the Box's Bacon Milkshake is topped with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry and packs a whopping 1,081 calories into every cup. But pork-lovers beware - the shake isn't even made with real bacon - bacon-flavoured syrup adds the smoky after-taste.

Adventurous early adopters of the bacon milkshake have labelled it 'bogus', with one critic calling it "synapse-jacking sweet" and "like doughnut glaze, with a wisp of smoky flavour".

Since reading about this bizarre beverage, we've uncovered other weird bacon-flavoured food-stuffs (Baconnaise and Bacon Lollipops, anyone?), proving there's clearly a market for this stuff - but will drinkable Bacon take off? Let America decide.
