(500) Days of Summer star Zooey Deschanel has announced she is separating from indie rocker husband Ben Gibbard after two years of marriage.

Deschanel met Gibbard, singer in indie band Death Cab for Cutie, in 2008, when they were introduced by their mutual manager. The couple married in Seattle a year later. Deschanel is also a singer, in indie-folk duo She and Him.

Deschanel's rep told Us Weekly "It was mutual and amicable. There was no third party involved." In September this year, the 31-year-old said in an interview with iVillage that time apart was what made their relationship work. "I'm a pretty busy person, so it allows us to get our work done."

Gibbard, 35, told Paste magazine in 2008, "I would rather make great albums than make great relationships."

Rimmel London model Deschanel is currently starring in US sitcom New Girl, playing a newly-separated teacher.
