99-year-old woman asks police to arrest her (and has a whale of a time)

oap arrested cells netherlands.png

Ordinarily, a spell in a cell is probably not cause for celebration. And when you’re nudging your 100th birthday, we imagine that (for most) a stint in the slammer holds even less appeal.

However one woman was overjoyed to be handcuffed by police recently, having fulfilled one of the wishes on her bucket list at the age of 99.

The nonagenarian, identified only as Annie, told police in the Dutch city of Nijmegen that being arrested and handcuffed was one of the last things she had left on her list – so they duly obliged.

Of course, she wasn’t really arrested, but she spent a couple of minutes locked up, complete with handcuffs. The team posted pictures of Annie clearly enjoying her brief detention on their Facebook page, explaining that while it wasn’t something they’d ordinarily encourage, they’d made an exception for her.

Lieutenant Peter Smit told The Independent that Annie found the trip “hilarious”: “In her life she never committed any crime, and thought it would be exciting to experience.

“As you can see in the picture from our post, she found it hilarious to be in the inside with the handcuffs.”

What we want to know is what else she’s got lined up...
