David Beckham has a message for people criticising son Cruz’s Christmas single

Just last week, Victoria and David Beckham’s 11-year-old son Cruz entered the running for this year’s Christmas no. 1.

And, while the majority of social media users were fans of festive pop song If Every Day Was Christmas, there were some who took offence to it.

Namely Piers Morgan.

Ranting on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, the 51-year-old launched an attack on the Beckham family, saying: “Why don't you go back to school mate, because you're not famous. Your parents are famous, so why don't you just carry on your education and let's stop putting these kids in the public domain while screaming ‘PRIVACY!’”

Morgan continued his less-than-eloquent rant by suggesting that the Beckhams had encouraged their son's musical career because they “needed the money”, before bringing a bin out and dubbing it ‘The Beckham Christmas Single Bucket’.

He then proceeded to faux-vomit into the bucket.

Morgan finished by claiming he had “nothing against poor little Cruz Beckham”, insisting that he was pointing the finger of blame firmly at the Beckham parents.

“I've got a lot of issues with what his parents are doing,” he said.

Cruz’s footballer dad, however, has now responded to Morgan’s complaints – and he’s done so in a gracious and reasoned manner.

Speaking on Good Morning America, Beckham said: “Cruz came to us and said, ‘How about I do a Christmas song for charity? And all the proceeds go to charity.’ There's nothing more to this than that at the moment.”

Beckham went on to explain that, while he and fashion designer Victoria are extraordinarily proud of their son’s musical talents, they have ensured that his focus is well and truly on his studies over his flourishing pop career.

“He's 11 years old, he's still at school, he's concentrating on school that's the most important thing but he wanted to give back he's done this amazing little Christmas song that's got a lot of attention.

“And you know we are very proud of it.”

Beckham finished by stressing: “He came to us with the idea. It's kind of cool but he's having fun.”

The 41-year-old is not the only person to speak out against Morgan’s tirade; Cruz’s manager, Scooter Braun, also hit back at his comments via Twitter.

“He [Cruz] is an 11 year old who wanted to make a song to help other kids,” he wrote at the time.

“Once again Piers shows why he is a jackass and why his show was cancelled. Some people in this world make a living out of finding the worst in every situation.

“It means they have a career. Not class. Just a career.”
