Madonna introduces her new twin daughters to the world

Madonna has posted a picture on Instagram of the four-year-old twin girls, Stella and Esther, she has adopted from the Malawi Home of Hope orphanage in Mchinji, near the western border with Zambia.

She wrote: “I can officially confirm I have completed the process of adopting twin sisters from Malawi.”

The 58-year-old singer added that she is “overjoyed that they are now part of our family” and extended her thanks to all those involved in the adoption process.

“I am deeply grateful to all those in Malawi who helped make this possible,” she wrote, “and I ask the media please to respect our privacy during this transitional time.

“Thank you also to my friends, family and my very large team for all your support and love.”

Madonna got permission for the adoptions by a court in Malawi on Tuesday, after admitting she felt “duty-bound” to care for the young girls after discovering information about their backgrounds through her charity work.

According to the BBC, Stella and Esther’s mother died soon after giving birth, and their father married a different woman.

The girls were then placed into the care of their grandparents who were overwhelmed by the prospect of having to bring up the twins and their siblings.

Madonna first met the twins about seven months ago, whilst visiting the orphanage with her eldest daughter, Lourdes, 20.

At the time, she shared a photo of the three girls together on Instagram, writing: “Three beauties! Lola spends time with twins, Stella and Esther at Home of Hope Orphanage.”

Madonna previously dismissed reports that she was seeking to adopt more children as “rumours”, saying: “I am in Malawi to check on the children’s hospital in Blantyre and my other work with [charity] Raising Malawi, and then heading home.

“The rumours of an adoption process are untrue.”

Despite being “above the age normally considered within the ranges of parenting”, according to the judge, Madonna supplied medical evidence to prove that she was in good health.

“Her charity work brings her into contact with orphanages... and it was as a result of this contact that she felt compelled to fill a gap in their lives and open up her home to them,” the judge said.

Madonna has encouraged her fans to donate and support orphanages in Malawi, writing: “There are 650 Orphans at Home of Hope where Esther and Stella have lived for four years since they were five days old.

“Run by the generous and compassionate Rev. Chipeto and his daughter Lucy, Raising Malawi has been working with HOH for over 10 years since I met my son David there.

She added: “If you would like to get involved by volunteering or donations go to. RaisingMalawi.org. Every little bit helps!!!”

She is also mother to Lourdes, with ex-boyfriend Carlos Leon, and 16-year-old Rocco, with ex-husband Guy Ritchie.
