There was no chance fans weren't going to forgive Adele for a less-than-perfect performance, especially as the main issue was down to an errant mic taking an unscheduled trip into a piano.
But the certified national treasure (and if she isn't certified, we've done it just now) says her shaky stage performance at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards this week left her in tears.
“I woke up the next morning to people being like, ‘We still love you. Don’t worry!’ And I was like, ‘I didn’t ask you if you still loved me, but thanks!’” the singer said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
“I was so embarrassed. I cried pretty much all day.”
Don't fret though – she reckons she'd have cried whatever happened. “If it had been like a standout performance, I would have cried as well. I always cry!”
Adele's piano accompaniment to All I Ask, a track from her latest album, 25, went awry when the mic fell onto the strings.
In the clip, which you can watch below, she explained: “Sound check was great […] I was really excited, and then during the changeover the microphones fell onto the piano strings which is what the guitar noise was.
“Some people thought it was [Justin] Bieber rehearsing, but it wasn’t him. We’re on great terms!”
She added: “And then it kind of put the whole thing off really.”
She later tweeted “Shit happens,” but in the interview, claimed to host DeGeneres she was “always a bit pitchy anyways”.
“When I’m flat and I’m sharp, I’m just emotional. But it was fine. I wanted to tell everyone straight away because it seemed to be a lot of confusion as to what it was.”
Adele also insisted that any future issues would be nipped in the bud, live TV or no live TV. “Next time I have any sound issues, I am gonna stop. I'll be like, ‘Sorry that's not working for me.’ If we have time to do it again, let's do it. Otherwise, bye!”
And doing what any of us would do, were we award-winning superstars ourselves of course, treated herself to a consoling burger and beer.
Yep, still love ya.
Because of it though... I'm treating myself to an in n out. So maybe it was worth it.— Adele (@Adele) February 16, 2016
