Adele kills it in Carpool Karaoke

Adele Corden.JPG

We told you it was coming. Make yourself a cup of tea, and take a 15-minute work break: Adele's Carpool Karaoke is here.

The clip, posted on the YouTube channel for The Late Late Show with James Corden, features the two Brits singing along to Adele, the Spice Girls and Nicki Minaj tracks as they drive through a rainy London. Confirming beyond any reasonable doubt that Adele is Just Like Us, she brings a half-drunk mug of tea into the car with her and promptly spills it down her new coat.

Carpool Karaoke's great charm lies in the fact that it really does feel like you're in the backseat of the car, singing along to the radio with a couple of mates (albeit with slightly better vocals than when we bawl along to Radio 1 on the way to Sainsbury's). Corden doesn't sound half-bad, which is saying something when you're singing alongside Adele.

Adele

We. Love. Them.

Adele reveals a few great tidbits over the course of the drive, from the fact that it's her playing the drum solo on Hello, to an explanation of why the Spice Girls mattered to her when she was young. "It was a huge moment in my life when they came out," she says. "It was Girl Power, it was these five ordinary girls who just like, did so well, and just got out. And I was like, 'I want to get out.'"

If you thought Adele's vocal talents were limited to balladeering, get ready to be proved wrong. Her rap of Nicki Minaj's verse from Monster is so word-perfect that Minaj herself felt compelled to respond on Twitter:

At one point, Adele looks out of the window at the drizzle. "It's such a shame it's raining," she observes, "because I feel like Americans are going to assume that England is rubbish."

"Not when this puppy comes out," James assures her. We couldn't agree more.
