Amber Rose turns the table on slut-shaming in hilarious “Walk of No Shame” video

rexfeatures_5012161cx.jpg

Amber Rose has always been a woman proud of her femininity and sexuality.

In a new video for comedy site, Funny or Diethe 31-year-old model satirically slams the ‘slut-shaming’ culture.

Entitled Walk of No Shame, the video sees Rose leave a house in the morning, dressed for a night out in a tight leather dress and barefoot- carrying last night’s stilettos in her hands.

Instead of hopping into a waiting taxi, or donning a pair of sunglasses and keeping her head down as she returns home, Rose strolls confidently through the surburban town, smiling and waving to passers-by.

The usual catcalls and slut-shaming women experience, is replaced by comments from men, who say: “good morning!” and “say, it looks to me like you had sex last night!” in a congratulatory manner.

To which Rose replies, proudly:

“I sure did!”

The man responds saying:

“Sounds like you’re living your best life.”

A construction worker stops what he is going to commend Rose on her behaviour, telling Rose:

“I respect that you enjoyed yourself last night.”

And an elderly woman in a park says:

“Nothing I haven’t done before.”

Even the town’s Mayor stops Rose to offer her the key to the city, because of:

“The confidence in the choices you make and your ability to celebrate your body.”

The fun and light-hearted video not only mocks people who shame women for the choices they make, but also takes a serious stance at the way women are treated in wider society. Victim blaming and catcalling serve to seriously undermine and even justify sexual abuse.

Amber Rose is promoting the LA Slutwalk, a protest that arose in 2011 after a Toronto police officer told university students that if they wanted to avoid sexual assault, then they shouldn’t dress like “sluts.”

The inflammatory and offensive comments led to a worldwide campaign about gender inequality and a yearly Slutwalk march.

At this year’s VMA awards, the mother of one wore a colourful dress emblazoned with the insults she’s received, from “bitch” to “hoe" in order to expose the treatment of women in the public eye.

By mocking society’s attitudes, this powerful and witty sketch seeks to turn the situation on its head.

At the end of the video, Orange is the New Black star, Matt McGorry, 29, appears as the man with whom Rose had shared a one night stand, asking for her number.

The model swiftly refuses, in a reversal of typical gender stereotypes, and goes on her merry way.

McGorry has since posted on his Facebook account:
