Amy Winehouse's pop art tribute

A new exhibition that celebrates the life of Amy Winehouse via one of Britain’s leading Pop Art masterminds opens in London today (11 October).

The display features re-created photos of Amy taken at her Camden home. Artist Gerald Laing, a leading exponent of the Pop Art movement who mixed with Andy Warhol in the 1960s, gave the snaps his signature makeover.

"I thought she (Amy) was a marvellous subject for painting," he told the Metro. "She had form and content in bucketloads."

The original photos show Amy in a number of casual poses - including vacuuming her flat, enjoying kissing her then-husband Blake Fielder-Civil and hugging her mother, Janis Winehouse.

They can be viewed at Thomas Gibson Fine Art in Mayfair until next month, with 20 percent of profits going to an addiction charity set up by Amy's father following her death in July. Grab a preview of the exhibition with our first-look paintings, above and below.
