Angelina is 'Maleficent': First Image

Disney has released the first picture of Jolie as the evil sorceress Maleficent in the updated film version of Disney's classic 1959 tale Sleeping Beauty.

Angelina Jolie's eyes take on an unnerving yellow hue to portray the Disney film's evil queen, Maleficent, in the first look at the star in character, above

The Oscar-winning star's depiction will reveal what turned the villain to the dark side and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora, aka Sleeping Beauty.

Maleficent began shooting last week, with Jolie and other big names including Elle Fanning, Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson, Juno Temple, Lesley Manville and Sharlto Copley.

Helmed by Robert Stromberg, the Oscar-winning production designer behind Avatar and Alice in Wonderland and executive produced by Jolie, the family-friendly movie is due to hit screens in 2014.
