The actress Angelina Jolie is set to have more cancer preventative surgery, less than a year after she revealed that she had a double mastectomy to reduce her chances of cancer.

Last May, Jolie wrote about her decision to have her breasts removed after she tested positive for the BRCA1 gene, which meant she had an 87% chance of getting breast cancer.

In the op-ed piece for The New York Times, Jolie discussed how she lost her own mother to the disease and as such wanted to prevent her own children from seeing their mother die from the same cause. Having the surgery meant it reduced her chances of breast cancer to 5%.

Now, Jolie has said that she is going to go for the procedure that removes her ovaries, as she also has a chance of developing ovarian cancer due to having the "faulty" gene.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly she said: “There’s still another surgery to have, which I haven’t [had] yet. I’ll get advice from all these wonderful people who I’ve been talking to, to get through that next stage.”

Brad Pitt was praised by his famous other half for his support in her piece for The New York Times, she also said she hoped it would raise awareness and that "for any woman reading this, I hope it helps you to know you have options."

She went on to say: "I want to encourage every woman, especially if you have a family history of breast or ovarian cancer, to seek out the information and medical experts who can help you through this aspect of your life, and to make your own informed choices."

This summer, Jolie is set to star in the new movie Maleficent, the story about the wicked witch of the same name who curses the princess Aurora.
