Anna Kendrick praises Gigi Hadid for fighting back against man who assaulted her

Anna Kendrick has spoken out to defend Gigi Hadid from critics – and she’s made sure to employ her trademark wit for the occasion, too.

Last week, Kendrick and feminists all over the word were left fuming when Hadid, after being attacked at Milan Fashion Week, was slammed for behaving in an “unladylike” manner.

The 21-year-old model had been grabbed from behind and hoisted up into the air by a strange man, who refused to let her go, despite protests from those gathered around her.

Angry and shaken by the incident, Hadid furiously lashed out at the man, causing him to drop her, before fleeing down the street.

Many press outlets reported the incident in a deeply sexist manner, suggesting that Hadid should have smiled politely and allowed herself to be manhandled by a stranger.

However social media was soon flooded with messages of support for the young model – and now Pitch Perfect star Kendrick has taken to Twitter to praise Hadid in her own unique way.

She wrote: “I tend to dislike naturally beautiful people (because I’m petty) but @GigiHadid with the elbow?

“Come through.”

Kendrick made her feelings on the matter even clearer when she added a GIF from Disney’s Hercules, which shows a crowd of women weeping tears of joy, fainting, and, generally, clamouring to get closer to their hero.

Her post has since been retweeted almost 7,000 times – and liked by over 31,000 people on the social media platform.

Meanwhile Hadid has also spoken out against her critics, taking to Twitter to write that she had “every right” to defend herself from the attack.

She continued: “How dare that idiot thinks he has the right to man-handle a complete stranger…

“GIRLS, prepare yourselves so that, if you ever feel in danger, MUSCLE MEMORY can fight back for you.”

She also made sure to thank all of her supporters for their kind messages, as well as her boxing coach for providing her with the skills she needed to defend herself.

Vitalii Sediuk  - aka the 'prankster' that picked Gigi up – has since claimed that he did it in protest against the use of celebrity supermodels.

"While I consider Gigi Hadid beautiful, she and her friend Kendall Jenner, have nothing to do with high fashion," he wrote, sharing his weak excuse as an Instagram post.

"By doing this I encourage fashion industry to put true talents on the runway and Vogue covers instead of well-connected cute girls from Instagram. You can call it a manifest or a protest.

"This is also a wake up call for Anna Wintour who turned Vogue into tabloid by putting Kardashians and other doubtful celebrities on a cover of a well-respected magazine".
