Benedict Cumberbatch and Reese Witherspoon share passionate embrace in movie kiss video series

BC and RW HERO.jpg

Behold, our new favourite on screen couple: Benedict Cumberbatch and Reese Witherspoon.

As part of one of the new video shorts by The New York Times celebrating the best acting talent of the year, The Imitation Game star gets to play the heartthrob as he passionately embraces Reese.

The Legally Blonde actress is dressed in a silver skirt and top costume and appears to be leaving a party, when her lover appears. She removes his hat and mask as he quickly embraces her before they get caught.

As well as Benedict and Reese locking lips there are eight other vignettes with 16 actors, who have been paired up. Each of the short films centre on the theme of the movie kiss.

There's the humorous scene of a first date between Steve Carrell and Laura Dern who are on a first date. While things begin awkwardly, they suddenly jump on each other and embrace, but then pull apart as they realise people can see them.

Another more amusing one is of Timothy Spall and David Oyelowo who are in the middle of an arm wrestling match. To throw his opponent off his game, Timothy quickly pecks David on the cheek, thus winning the game.

In the series there's also a sweet yet sexy kiss between Jenny Slate and Rosario Dawson, a dramatic kiss between a bride and (probably) not her husband (played by the brilliant Miles Teller and Gugu Mbatha-Raw), and a groupie, Kristen Stewart, who rushes the stage at a gig to kiss her idol, Chadwick Boseman.

Directed by Elaine Constantine, who shot the film Northern Soul, the videos are meant to make people feel something when they watch them. Whether that's because they're funny, emotional or they make you feel young again; or they're just romantic.

In a video on the making of the project, Elaine said that most of the actors didn't know each other before they shot the films “but in a way it was a good thing. The excitement of those meetings was what created the ease of getting into something so intimate”.
