Most romantic wedding gesture ever? Groom pays homage to wife with suit lined in their online dating messages

Love a tale of modern day romance? Graphic designer Nick Reeve decided to celebrate the way he met his new wife Jennifer in a unique way.

Nick and Jennifer met three years ago through online dating site Match Affinity, and on the day of their wedding the groom wanted to do something special.

“Thankfully internet dating isn’t the taboo that it once was and I wanted to celebrate the fact that by the time of our first date we knew a lot about each other,” he says, talking to Creative Review

“I wanted to do something meaningful but not overly sentimental or slushy.”

The couple met-up around a week after first connecting online, and having clearly hit it off, had already exchanged a stream of messages sharing details about their lives, jobs, families and backgrounds.

Two years later they got engaged.

“We got married at the end of May and I managed to keep the lining a secret from Jen until the big day when I could do the big reveal,”  says Nick.

The idea came about when at a fitting for his wedding suit, Nick got chatting to tailor Marc Wallace about a shared passion for design.

Together, they hatched a plan to print all of the messages exchanged in those early days of the relationship, onto the silk lining of the suit and a matching pocket square.

From conversations about where they grew up to intimate disclosures such as: “I have two children, Lily is 7, and Henry is almost 5 now,” the suit tracked the couple's entire bonding experience.

The pocket square meanwhile, displayed their personal statements from the dating site.

“As a designer who left college in the early 90s, and has seen huge changes in design, I like the fact the idea combines social media, new technology with the very traditional art of bespoke tailoring,” explains Nick.

“But most of all I Iove the back story and the fact that what started out as a conversation between two strangers has ended up very happily indeed.”
