Beyoncé’s father confirms that the twins have arrived (much to the ire of fans)

Matthew Knowles has confirmed that his daughter, Beyoncé, has given birth to twins – and, in doing so, has sparked fury among some of her fans.

US media outlets had reported that the Single Ladies singer and Jay Z had welcomed two siblings for daughter Blue Ivy, but the pair have yet to announce the news or make a comment.

However, in the way of all excitable parents, Knowles couldn’t resist letting the world know that he was a granddad again.

“They're here! #beyonce #twins #jayz #happybirthday,” he wrote on Twitter and Instagram.

And, as if that wasn’t clear enough, Knowles added an image of a digital card that reads, “Happy Birthday to the twins! Love, Granddad”.

While Tina Knowles Larson (aka Bey’s mum) ‘liked’ the post, it unfortunately didn’t go down well with members of the BeyHive.

Some were angry that Knowles had denied his daughter the chance to confirm the news herself:

While others insisted that they would never believe the news until it came from Bey herself:

There were some, though, who were quick to defend Knowles from the Twitter backlash:

Knowles’ comment comes shortly after a woman was photographed entering a Los Angeles hospital on Friday holding a card that read "B + J".

Although the gender of the babies has not yet been revealed, pink and blue balloons have been pictured in the media, suggesting Blue Ivy now has a brother and a sister.

While Bey has yet to confirm the news herself, we imagine she will do so when she’s good and ready: after all, she broke Instagram records when she announced that she was pregnant with twins in the first place.

The twins are babies two and three for Beyoncé, who welcomed five-year-old Blue Ivy in 2012.

Shortly after giving birth to her daughter, the singer revealed she wanted more children, telling US Vogue: “When I was younger, there were moments where I said, ‘I'm not going to have children’, and then there were moments when I wanted four.

“And now I definitely want another, but I don't know when.”

In 2013, Beyoncé confirmed that she had suffered a miscarriage prior to the birth of Blue Ivy.

She said at the time: “About two years ago, I was pregnant for the first time. And I heard the heartbeat, which was the most beautiful music I ever heard in my life.

“I picked out names. I envisioned what my child would look like. I was feeling very maternal.

“I flew back to New York to get my check up – and no heartbeat. Literally the week before I went to the doctor, everything was fine, but there was no heartbeat.”

The tragedy inspired Beyoncé to write the song Heartbeat. “I went into the studio and wrote the saddest song I've ever written in my life,” she said. “And it was actually the first song I wrote for my album.

“And it was the best form of therapy for me, because it was the saddest thing I've ever been through.”
