Beyoncé shares emotional poem about her pregnancy: “I’m still nervous”

Just one day after announcing that she is pregnant with twins (and subsequently breaking all Instagram records), Beyoncé has done what she does best; the Lemonade star has created some concept art about this transitional period in her life.

Taking to her personal website, the singer has published a handful of intimate photographs – some of which have been taken alongside her daughter, Blue Ivy, and others which have been snapped underwater.

The imagery, as many fans have pointed out, feels similar in style to Sandro Botticelli’s famous works of religious icons – particularly his Birth of Venus artwork.

And Bey has seemingly confirmed that the Renaissance artist inspired her maternity shoot, which she’s titled ‘I Have Three Hearts’, after referencing a short poem by Warsan Shire, who also contributed to Lemonade.

It reads:

Venus has flooded me,
second planet from the sun.

I wake up on her foamy shore.

She wants to take me to meet my children.
I’ve done this before… I’m still nervous.

Girl turning into woman,
woman turning into mother,
mother turning into Venus.

Venus falls in love,
flowers grow wherever
love touches her, this
is how she is reborn.

I look at photographs of my mother
when she was pregnant with me,
does she feel how I feel now?

In the dream I am crowning
osun,
Nefertiti,
and yemoja
pray around my bed,

I can smell jasmine,
I wake up as someone
places a wreath
upon my head.

Venus has flooded me,
second planet from the sun.

I wake up on her foamy shore.

She wants to take me to meet my children.
I’ve done this before… I’m still nervous.

In her announcement on Wednesday, Beyoncé posed in a bra and knickers in an ethereal shot while surrounded by flowers and cradling her bump in an Instagram post.

She added a caption, reading: “We would like to share our love and happiness. We have been blessed two times over. We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes. - The Carters.”

However many of the musician’s fans have suggested that she had dropped a low-key pregnancy announcement back in December 2016, buried within a post she shared for Christmas.

At one point in the slideshow, which runs through a series of family snaps, Bey can be seen cradling her stomach, before flashing two fingers in the air.

She then creates a heart shape with her hands.

A video posted by Beyoncé (@beyonce) on

“She told us in December,” wrote one fan.

Another added; “Oh my god, she subliminally showed us in December but we didn’t realise.”

The unborn twins will be babies two and three for Beyoncé, who welcomed five-year-old Blue Ivy in 2012.

Shortly after giving birth to her daughter, the singer revealed she wanted more children, telling US Vogue: “When I was younger, there were moments where I said, ‘I'm not going to have children’, and then there were moments when I wanted four.

“And now I definitely want another, but I don't know when.”

In 2013, Beyoncé confirmed that she had suffered a miscarriage prior to the birth of Blue Ivy.

She said at the time: “About two years ago, I was pregnant for the first time. And I heard the heartbeat, which was the most beautiful music I ever heard in my life.

“I picked out names. I envisioned what my child would look like. I was feeling very maternal.

“I flew back to New York to get my check up - and no heartbeat. Literally the week before I went to the doctor, everything was fine, but there was no heartbeat.”

The tragedy inspired Beyoncé to write the song Heartbeat.

“I went into the studio and wrote the saddest song I've ever written in my life,” she said. “And it was actually the first song I wrote for my album.

“And it was the best form of therapy for me, because it was the saddest thing I've ever been through.”
