Dawn O’Porter hits back at Beyoncé critics on Twitter: “Learn not to be that dickhead”

It’s official; almost everyone in the world lost their cool the moment Beyoncé announced that she is pregnant with twins (and subsequently broke all Instagram records in the process).

However, while the majority of folk were happy for the Single Ladies singer, others were critical of her ‘public’ announcement – and mocked Bey’s fans for ‘fawning over her’.

Loose Women’s Janet Street-Porter, for one, launched into a fierce rant about the whole thing in front of live studio audience.

“A woman gets pregnant, it’s not a miracle,” she snapped. “We all know how it happens.”

Then, turning her attention to Bey’s Botticelli-inspired photoshoot, Street-Porter added: “She looks like a terrible display outside a petrol station. She looks like one of those bunches of flowers in a bucket that you walk past and say, 'Oh no, my mother-in-law's worth more than this'.

“To be honest, I wasn't even shocked by that. I thought she's just following the trend. It all started back in 1991, who can forget, Demi Moore posed on the cover of Vanity Fair. That was stylish, and now it's come down to a cheap bit of net curtain on your head and a load of economy flowers and that dodgy bra.”

Self-confessed feminist Dawn O’Porter, however  knows one or two things about lifting women up, rather than tearing them down. So it should come as no surprise to hear that she has defended Bey from the backlash.

The author and television presenter, who recently announced that is pregnant herself (albeit in a far more low-key manner than Beyoncé), had originally taken to Twitter to congratulate the singer on her news.

“I was fascinated to know what Beyoncé would do next,” she wrote. “How could she possibly top Lemonade? Twins is a pretty good effort! WOOOO!!!”

However it wasn’t long before O’Porter noticed that people were complaining about Bey’s – and, in a brilliant series of Twitter posts, has since compared haters of all things celebrity and cat-based to “dickhead” atheists.

“People who don't like cats are like atheists. They have to argue with you and make you feel silly for that fact that you do. It's so boring,” she began.

O’Porter continued: “I am an atheist, but I have learned not to be that dick head.

“Same goes for people who don't like Beyonce. OK OK, you're too cool to like Beyonce. I get it. Bore off.”

O’Porter recently announced that she is expecting her second child with husband Chris O’Dowd, with whom she already shares 23-month-old son, Art.

The couple tied the knot in August 2012, after meeting at a dinner party in LA three years earlier. And O’Porter (who, rather than taking her husband’s surname, meshed hers with his), has thanked the Bridesmaids actor for coming into her life during a very difficult time in her career.

“I thank God I met Chris when all that was going on, because if I hadn’t I might have really hit rock bottom,” she told the Mail Online.

“We got together just as Chris’s career was taking off, so we experienced it together. Because it was all happening for him, I still got to live this amazing life.”

O’Porter added: “I was quite lucky that there was never this, ‘Oh, I’ve got to find the one.’ I met Chris at a point where he just kind of came into my life and that was that. We’re a great team”
