This couple were too busy kissing to notice an armed robbery

A wise man named Keanu Reeves once said, “It's fun to be hopelessly in love. It's dangerous, but it's fun.”

He’s right, of course, as he is about so many things (apart from perhaps his reported belief in human spontaneous combustion, but we’ll leave that for another day). In today’s dangerous-but-fun-but-really-actually-quite-dangerous love news, an American couple were so busy kissing at a bar on Sunday night that they failed to notice an armed robbery taking place around them.

The unidentified couple were on a date at The Tap Inn in Billings, Montana, on April 11. CCTV footage released by the bar shows the pair perched on barstools, doing that thing that only really happens in the earliest stages of a dalliance, where you sort of lean woozily towards each other, gazing syrup-faced into one another’s eyes. (Since they were in a bar, it’s probably fair to assume that some alcohol had been consumed at this point.) They have a little snog.

And then three masked robbers, dressed all in black, come bursting through the bar doors. These people have guns, and they’re pointing them at the guy behind the bar. The barman frantically opens up the till and hands over the cash; the bar’s other patrons all put their hands in the air, as you would.

But not our lovebirds! Oh, no. They don’t even notice. They carry right on canoodling, only surfacing for air as the robbers flee. At this point, the woman looks curiously over her shoulder. “Huh,” you can almost see her thinking. “Those armed, balaclava-d men are leaving in an awful rush. I wonder what they wanted?”

Can we just process this story for a second? This couple, this human man and woman, fancied each other so much that they either didn’t notice, or didn’t care, that guns were being waved around approximately two feet from them. Forget Romeo and Juliet; we're even over Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum, our favourite celebrity crush (look, they’re both just really good at dancing, OK). This, right here? This is love.

Or maybe, living in a state where firearms can be carried openly without a license, they’re just not particularly bothered by guns. But that’s not so romantic.

No one was harmed in the incident, and police are still looking for the three robbery suspects.
