Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, 29, are, without a doubt, one of our favourite celebrity couples – not least of all because they respect and treat one another as equals.
And now, in an intimate new interview, the 40-year-old Deadpool star has revealed the exact moment he realised he was in love with Lively.
“We were hanging out at this little restaurant in Tribeca that's open really late, and this song came on and I was just like, 'Want to dance?'” he told GQ Magazine.
“No one was in there, so it was just totally empty. And it was just one of those moments where halfway through the dance, I was like, 'Oh, I think I just crossed a line.' And then I walked her home.”
He refused to reveal the name of their special song, but he did go on to hint that things got pretty steamy after their dance together.
“Uh, you know, I don't really need to go into what happened after that,” he said.
The actor, who now shares two children with the Gossip Girl star, added: “Every idiotic Hallmark-card cliché is true.”
Earlier this month, Lively threw a 40th birthday party for her husband, at O Ya - aka the very same restaurant Reynolds fell hard for her.
She captioned the shot: “We fell in love at your restaurant in Boston. We stay in love at your restaurant in NY. Thank you for the BEST food and memories!
“You are our FAVOURITE!! Another happy birthday with @vancityreynolds . Hey, Reynolds, I like you a whole lot. Just sayin'...”
Thanking her for the event, Reynolds also took to social media to share a photograph of him and his partner in funny face masks.
He wrote: “Best. Birthday. Everrrrr. Courtesy of my wife, buddy, and international spy, @blakelively. With huge thanks to my favourite restaurant in NYC, @_o_ya_ - and a special shout out to our children for not ruining everything like they planned.”
The couple met while filming superhero flick Green Lantern, which came out back in 2011, but it wasn’t exactly love at first sight.
In fact, Lively and Reynolds were “buddies” for a long time, and didn’t realise there was more to their relationship until they went on a double date together… although, awkwardly, each was there with another person.
“About a year after Green Lantern had come and gone and we were both single we went on a double date – she was on a date with another guy and I was on a date with another girl,” the actor told People magazine.
“It was like the most awkward date for the respective parties because we were just like fireworks coming across.”
Lively confirmed the story to SiriusXM, adding: “But that's what I appreciate about our relationship - he's my friend, first and foremost, still. Not just in our history, but in everyday life.
“He's my friend first and I think that's the secret to happiness. I don't know the secret to happiness, but it's the secret to my happiness, at least.”
