Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are married

It was announced today that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were married last weekend.

There are scant details about the nuptials so far but a spokesperson for the couple has confirmed that the pair wed after a two-year engagement.

Brad proposed in April 2012 with a custom-made engagement ring he designed for his actress wife.

The ceremony took place in France before they headed off to Malta to start filming on their new film By The Sea, which is the first time the couple have acted alongside each other since starring in Mr and Mrs Smith.

The couple and their children arrived in France on Friday August 22, landing in Nice by private jet where they were believed to be heading to Château Miraval, the wine château in the village of Correns that they have been leasing since 2008.

It's being widely-reported that they got married married Saturday in Chateau Miraval, France, in a small chapel, in a ceremony that was attended by family and friends.

It is also being reported that in advance of the nondenominational civil ceremony, Brad and Angelina also obtained a marriage license from a local California judge. The judge also conducted the ceremony in France.

The couple's children are believed to have taken part in the wedding. Jolie walked the aisle with her eldest sons Maddox and Pax. Zahara and Vivienne threw petals. Shiloh and Knox served as ring bearers, the spokesman says.

Brad attended a photocall for film Fury and was spotted for the first time with his ring on

Brad and Angelina met on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith and have been dating since 2005.

In a recent interview, Angelina said despite having settled down she was still wild at heart.

"I'm still a bad girl. I still have that side of me," the actress told CBS News, of the wild child image that defined her youth. "It's just in its place now ... it belongs to Brad."

More news as we have it.

Come take a look at the evolution of Brad and Angelina's relationship over the years.
