Watch Adele dedicate her concert to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie: “it’s the end of an era”

Adele, thanks to her beautiful breakup songs, has often been dubbed the Queen of Heartbreak.

So it makes sense that she decided to dedicate her sold-out show in New York City's Madison Square Garden to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Clearly shocked by news of the couple’s impending divorce after 12 years together, the Skyfall singer asked the crowd if she could “talk about the elephant in the room”.

“Brangelina broke up,” she told them.

“I mean, I don’t like gossiping, and I think private lives should be private, but I feel like it’s the end of an era… so I’m dedicating my show tonight to them.”

The 28-year-old continued to explain that she had been “shocked” when she’d woken up to the news that morning, despite the fact she knew neither of the Hollywood stars personally, and that she was “really, really sad” about the split.

She finished by explaining that she was going to use her concert as a way of working through her feelings over the celebrity breakup – and many of her fans thanked her for the “therapy session”.

Watch the moment below:

Adele wasn’t the only celebrity shocked over Brangelina’s split; George Clooney, who is a close friend of Pitt, was stunned when a CNN reporter asked for his thoughts on the news about the couple while at the United Nations.

Clearly unaware of the split, Clooney responded, "What happened?"

When the reporter awkwardly explained that Jolie had filed for divorce, Clooney said: "I didn't know that.

“Wow."

He went on to add: "I feel very sorry, then. That's a sad story and unfortunate for a family. It's an unfortunate story about a family. I feel very sorry to hear that.

"This is the first I've heard of it."

The actor was at the UN on Tuesday attending a roundtable with President Obama on the refugee crisis.

Jolie filed for divorce on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences.

Her attorney Robert Offer released a statement that read: "Angelina has filed for dissolution of the marriage. This decision was made for the health of the family.

"She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time."

Pitt also released his own statement to People, saying: "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."

TMZ, who broke the news, reported that Jolie has requested physical custody of their six children - Maddox Jolie-Pitt, 15, Pax Jolie-Pitt, 12, Zahara Jolie-Pitt, 11, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, 10, and eight-year-old twins Knox Jolie-Pitt and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt.
