Cate Blanchett gets post-Oscars tattoo with Amy Adams

While some stars celebrate an Oscar win with copious rounds of champagne and over-emotional toasts, Cate Blanchett chose a slightly more unconventional mode of marking her best actress win at the weekend.

The Blue Jasmine actress headed to Shamrock Social Club tattoo parlour in West Hollywood with fellow nominee Amy Adams in tow.

Both stars were spotted leaving the store on Monday, along with Blanchett's husband Andrew Upton and Adams' fiance Darren Le Gallo. Blanchett and Le Gallo were seen with tell-tale bandages on their arms (Blanchett's was around her wrist), suggesting they'd both got an inking - but the parlour refused to confirm to reporters whether either person had, in fact, got a tattoo done.

Shamrock Social Club is a favourite among celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Bruce Willis and Katy Perry and is famed for its tight-lipped policy when it comes to high-profile customers who head there for tattoos.

Blanchett, 44, beat American Hustle star Adams, 39, to be awarded the best actress gong on Sunday but there were obviously no hard feelings between the pair on their joint expedition to Shamrock the day after.

Blanchett paid tribute to Adams and her other co-stars in her acceptance speech, saying: "Amy Adams... your performance in American Hustle blew my mind."

The actress later revealed that she almost didn't make it to the stage in time when her Oscar win was announced because she was drinking with Julia Roberts, who was also up for best actress for her performance in August: Osage County.

"I was with Julia Roberts in the bar for rather too long and just got back to my seat in time," Blanchett admitted to E! News. "The blessing and the curse of this [best actress award] is it happens at the arse end of the evening. So you watch so many other extraordinary people get up there and you lose track of the fact that you're even nominated."

We've yet to see what Blanchett's tattoo will be - but rumour has that it could be a tribute to the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, whom both Blanchett and Adams were close to. Whatever it is, we'll be keeping our eyes peeled on Blanchett's wrist next time she's out and about.
