The world is awash right now with celebs dousing themselves in icy water for the sake of charity.

Yes, the ice bucket challenge has well and truly taken hold on t'internet, with famed names queuing up to take part in the viral craze and combat motor neurone disease.

Benedict Cumberbatch is the latest celebrity to take up the challenge, who was nominated by his War Horse co-star and pal Tom Hiddleston. We're sure that all his adoring fans will be pleased to know that he gave a little bit "extra" than just the usual bucket of water over his head.

Victoria Beckham also took up the soaking gauntlet after actress Eva Longoria nominated her on Sunday. When husband David and son Brookyln completed their challenges on Tuesday, the fashion designer tweeted: "Getting prepared for my turn…I'm getting nervous fashion bunnies!"

The challenge usually has to be completed within 24 hours but the star shared a video of David and sons Brooklyn, Cruz and Romeo throwing two buckets of icey water over her this evening.

She's followed in the footsteps of Britney Spears, Lena Dunham and other stars, in a campaign which has so far raised millions of pounds both for research into motor neurone disease (channelled to the ALS Association in the US). In the UK, the cause has also been used to generate cash for Macmillan Cancer Support.

With video footage of soggy celebs flooding the internet, participants who are nominated (starry or otherwise) can either accept the challenge and pay up $10 (£6) to charity or refuse and pay $100 (£60).
