Work experience teen goes viral with hilarious Southern Rail tweets

An enthusiastic teen on work experience won the hearts of the nation when he took over Southern Rail’s Twitter account – with hilarious results.

Eddie, a 15-year-old student from South London, was handed the reins to the company’s Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon, and soon found himself engaging with a number of their 163,000 followers.

“Hi, Eddie here!” the keen intern wrote in his first tweet, sent just after 2.30pm. “Here on Work Experience and ready to answer your questions!”

Predictably, within seconds Eddie had a number of tweets to contend with, as Twitter uses saw their opportunity to ask him the questions of a lifetime.

"URGENT QUESTION - Eddie, would you rather have rollerblades for feet or chopsticks for hands for the rest of your life?" asked one.

Wisely, Eddie opted for rollerblades.

There were questions involving fighting animals, with one user asking, “Would you rather fight 1 horse sized duck or 100 duck sized horse?”

Eddie opted for 100 duck-sized horses, adding that “A horse-sized duck would be pretty scary!”

Others wanted to get the teenager’s advice on a very important topic: what to have for dinner.

“Shall I have chicken fajitas tonight or chicken Thai green curry?” asked a user.

“It has to be the chicken fajitas,” replied Eddie with a wink.

Eddie was even drafted in for some expert fashion advice:

And he won us over completely with this particular response:

By the end of the day, the hashtag #AskEddie was trending, as more and more Twitter users logged on to ask the wise teen a question.

At the time of writing, his original tweet has almost 5,000 likes and has been retweeted 1,600 times, and it appears that Southern Rail might even be making his advice slots a regular feature on their account, with Eddie returning to their feed today.

And with the beleaguered rail operator usually receiving furious tweets from users stuck or stranded due to various rail-related faults, Eddie has surely been a breath of fresh air in the office.

We can’t wait to #AskEddie a question of our own if he returns tomorrow...
