Eponymous chat show host Ellen DeGeneres appears to have confirmed that Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are expecting their first child together.

The TV personality and comedian tweeted her congratulations to the couple today, saying:

"Congrats to @RyanGosling and @EvaMendes! That's going to be the most beautiful, bilingual, part-superhero, well-dressed, romantic baby ever."

She has a close relationship with both stars, who have appeared regularly on her show over the years.

The US edition of OK! magazine reported earlier this week that 40-year-old Eva was seven months' pregnant with Gosling's baby.

"She’s been ready for motherhood for a while now," a source close tothe actress told the magazine. "And to be sharing this experience with Ryan is a dream come true for her."

Gosling, 33, was said to be equally thrilled.

"Ryan grew up without a dad, so he always said when he had kids, he’d be there no matter what," the source told OK! "This is it for him."

The couple began dating in 2011 after they co-starred as lover and parents in crime drama The Place Beyond the Pines.

They've yet to make a comment on the OK! report and have neither confirmed nor denied that they're expecting a child.

Earlier on that month, she appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show (see video below) and laughed off rumours that she was pregnant. The star branded the story "ridiculous" and said it had started because refused to walk through a scanner at an airport.

But, she said, she did this because of a personal choice rather than anything else.

However, it now appears the rumours are correct and these two Hollywood leads are indeed set to become parents - that's if Ellen is to be believed.

The Twitterati were quick to react to the happy news - the original tweet from Ellen has already been favourited over 10,000 times.

Stylist contacted a spokesperson from Eva for comment on the story and is awaiting a response.

Gosling has previously talked about his desire to be a father, telling E! in 2011: "I’d like to be making babies but I’m not, so I’m making movies. When someone comes along, I don’t think I’ll be able to do both and I’m fine with that... I’ll make movies until I make babies."
