Ellen DeGeneres has officially banned Donald Trump from her TV show

As one of the world’s most beloved chat show hosts, actors and TV personalities, Ellen DeGeneres is loved by fans of all ages (not least for voicing Dory in Disney’s Finding Nemo) and was last year awarded a Medal of Freedom by former President Barack Obama, who pointed out how she uses her voice and visibility to inspire others.

However, while she is a fan of the last POTUS, DeGeneres has made it abundantly clear that she is not fond of the current US president at all. So much so that she has now explicitly banned Donald Trump from ever appearing on her show – describing him as “dangerous”.

Sitting down to chat with former Fox News host Megyn Kelly, DeGeneres was quizzed about Trump and his policies.

“I would not have him on my show,” she said firmly.

“He is who he is and he has enough attention. He has his Twitter account and he has ways to get his message across. There is nothing I’m going to say to him that’s going to change him, and I don’t want to give him a platform, because it validates him.”

DeGeneres added: “For me to have someone on the show, I have to at least admire them in some way. And I can’t have someone that I feel is not only dangerous for the country – and for me personally as a gay woman – but to the world.

“He’s dividing all of us... I just don’t want him on the show.”

It is not the first time that DeGeneres has spoken out on Trump’s divisive and controversial presidency: earlier this year, she used her film Finding Dory to explain why she disagreed with his his proposal for a travel ban halting refugees from entering the USA, as well as immigrants from seven “majority-Muslim countries,” including Syria, Somalia and Iran.

“I don’t get political, but I will say that I am against [the ban],” she said.

“I am not going to talk about the travel ban. I am just going to talk about the very non-political, People’s Choice Award-winning film Finding Dory.

“Dory arrives in America with her friends, Marlon and Nemo, and she arrives at the Marine Life Institute behind a large wall. And they all have to get over the wall. And you won’t believe it, but that wall has almost no effect in keeping them out.

“The other animals help Dory. Animals that don’t even need her. Animals that have nothing in common with her. They help her even though they are completely different colours, because that’s what you do when you see someone in need. You help them.”

Meanwhile, the TV host also shared an important message with fans on Twitter to express her disagreement with Trump’s decision to ban transgender individuals from joining the military.

“We should be grateful to the people who wish to serve, not turn our backs on them. Banning transgender people is hurtful, baseless and wrong,” DeGeneres wrote.
