Ellen DeGeneres has revealed the secret to her happy marriage with Portia de Rossi - and, like most good things, it is brilliantly simple.

Speaking to People, the 58-year-old American talkshow host and Finding Dory star revealed that she and her wife try not to take each other for granted.

“Portia and I constantly say to each other, ‘We are so lucky’," she said.

"Sometimes it’s lying in bed at night before I go to sleep, and I just say thank you to whatever, whoever is out there."

DeGeneres, who wed 43-year-old Australian actress de Rossi back in 2008, also spoke about how the couple make sure to put each other first.

“Our priorities are each other too,” she said. “If we had kids, then I’m sure they would be, but we are. And that’s important.”

She also gushed about the pair's marriage, refusing to pick a best part of their union because "it's everything".

The couple currently live in LA with three dogs and three cats.
