George and Amal reported to have snapped up 17th century mansion by the Thames

George Clooney has confirmed he will be moving to the UK later this summer with wife Amal Alamuddin Clooney.

The actor told USA Today all about his new home in a recent interview, saying ''It will be done by the end of the summer and we'll be in it. And we'll sort of go back and forth between L.A.'

Speaking about his new home in Sonning-on-Thames, he said : 'The town has been so welcoming to us. There's a pub that we walk to, we walk through a graveyard to (get there). It's fantastic.'

It is understood the couple snapped up this spectacular property, located on a private island on the River Thames. The 17th century house features 10 bedrooms, 5.5 acres of land and everything you could wish for from a dream house including Doric columns at the door, cosy fireplaces and a dining room that can host up to 20 guests.

The house is located near the village of Sonning-on-Thames, near to where George Clooney filmed Monuments Men in 2013. A rumoured appearance in the local pub by the couple on Saturday night sparked a flurry of Twitter interest, and locals have commented that the community are hoping their new neighbours will get involved with local activities.

The couple married last month in Venice, and rumours have been flying ever since about the location of their first marital home - it seems they've made a very good choice. Have a look at our gallery to see the amazing estate agent pictures of the Clooneys' luxurious new home.
