In new comments about family life, the Hollywood star has championed stay-at-home mums, saying that compromise is "part of the equation" for mothers.
"I have little kids in school. I want to maintain my marriage and my family, so I have to be here when he (Chris Martin) comes home," Gwyneth told Harper's Bazaar in a wide-ranging interview about children, relationships and her past.
The Oscar-winning actress described how she cooks for her husband, Coldplay frontman Chris, at their home in north London and makes sure she is there when her children, Apple, 7, and Moses, 5, return from school.
Recalling advice she gave to a friend, Gwyneth said, "She is an actress and in a new relationship with someone else with a big career, and I said this may not be feminist, but you have to compromise.
"It's been all about you and you're a big deal. And if you want what you're saying you want - a family - you have to be a wife, and that is part of the equation."
Gwyneth praised her husband as "very communicative - which is rare for a British man," and also revealed that one of her previous partners cheated on her "all the time" during their relationship.
The Hollywood star has dated Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck in the past, but declined to name who was unfaithful to her.
