Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin's girlfriend sing on Coldplay's new album

Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow are consciously recoupling - but only in the name of music.

The singer has revealed that his ex-wife is lending her vocals to Coldplay's latest album A Head Full of Dreams, which also features his actress girlfriend Annabelle Wallis.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, the singer explained: “Everyone who got asked to sing on our album has an important part in our lives.”

Another surprising guest star is Blue Ivy Carter, Beyonce and Jay-Z's three-year-old daughter. The band previously confirmed that Beyoncé, Noel Gallagher and Tove Lo will feature on the group's seventh album.

“Everyone who got asked to sing on our album has an important part in our lives,” he explains. “This is The Wall Street Journal, so I don't want to get too hippie, but what I'm trying to learn in my life is the value of every human.”

"The 'choir' started with my two kids coming in after school and recording,” he says. “We recorded Blue Ivy Carter in New York when her mom Beyoncé was in the studio.”

“It comes from learning about Greek tragedy, where the chorus chimes in at times," he continues. “To me, when we use that sound, it's to affirm what I'm saying. 'We agree with you, Chris. Keep singing.'”

The 38-year-old explains in the interview that 13th century poet Rumi's Guest House poem “changed his life” and inspired the wide-ranging collaborations.

“Inclusiveness is the key thing, and it all comes from that Guest House poem,” he says. “It’s about every feeling that you have being a gift. Self-doubt and depression as well as all the joyful feelings are all useful if you can harness them.”

Gwyneth, 43, sings on a ballad called Everglow, which the paper describes as “about a relationship's enduring spark.”

The former couple's two children Apple, 11, and Moses, 9, also join friends and family members in a choir-style song. X-Men: First Class star Annabelle, 31, features on one song.

A Head Full of Dreams is out on December 4th.
