Happy birthday Madonna!

Ever since she burst onto the music scene back in the early 80s, Madonna has been commanding attention, and we’re sure today will be no different as the queen of pop celebrates her 54th birthday.

Record-breaking musician, style icon, actress, film director, business woman and mother, there’s little the relentlessly ambitious Madonna will not turn her hand to (despite varying degrees of success), and always courting controversy along the way.

To celebrate Madonna’s birthday, we took a look back into the archives and unearthed this funny clip from 1990 of the star appearing on the Arsenio Hall Show.

Resplendent in a white trouser suit (note the era-defining shoulder pads, unruly brows and dark plum lipstick), Madonna kicks things off in her inimitable controversial style at around 2mins 20secs in, setting the tone for the rest of the interview where she also explains (at 5mins 12secs) the difference between being good-girl and bad-girl spanked (one for Fifty Shades of Grey fans we think), and just what it is that Warren Beatty (her Dick Tracy co-star) has that other men don’t.

Happy birthday Madonna, here’s to 54 more years on top!
