Fashion designer Georgina Chapman – whom has been married to Harvey Weinstein for almost a decade – has said that she is leaving him following allegations of sexual harassment against him from a string of actresses.

Insisting that his actions are “unforgivable”, the Marchesa co-founder told People: “My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions.”

Chapman, who has two children with Weinstein, went on to reveal that she has chosen to separate from the accused producer.

“I have chosen to leave my husband,” she said.

“Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time.”

Her decision comes shortly after Weinstein, who has denied allegations of non-consensual sex, insisted that his wife was standing behind him.

“She stands 100 percent behind me. Georgina and I have talked about this at length,” Weinstein told the New York Post, adding that Chapman was helping him become “a better human” and to “apologise to people for my bad behaviour, to say I’m sorry, and to absolutely mean it.”

Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie are the latest to come forward to the New York Times and accuse Weinstein of sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour, alleging that the incidents happened early in their acting careers.

Responding to the lengthy allegations against him, Weinstein's spokeswoman, Sallie Hofmeister, told the Times: “Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr Weinstein. Mr Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances.

“He will not be available for further comments, as he is taking the time to focus on his family, on getting counselling and rebuilding his life.”

The statement continued: “Mr. Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances. Mr. Weinstein obviously can’t speak to anonymous allegations, but with respect to any women who have made allegations on the record, Mr. Weinstein believes that all of these relationships were consensual.
